Assess by Ed the Fred for Omron Manual Inflation Blood Pressure Monitor with Large Adult Cuff.
Rating:
We bought one of these HEM-422CRLC units and expected it back in May 2010.
We used Sensitivity Rate Monitors USA through Amazon. We had no problem with shipment or Sensitivity Rate Monitors USA. We tested the unit upon its’ arrival and it continually gave us E or EE messages. We called Omron and they said the cuff wasn’t tight sufficient and walked us through the procedure. It worked about half the time. All through continual use it gave E or EE readings for the first 2 or 3 tries and finally would work. So we took it to my doctor and my wifes doctor and the nurses here ran into the same problem. Solely to make sure we weren’t bringing up the rear our minds, we took our two other OMRONs, an involuntary wrist model #HEM-650 and a manual model # HEM-432C, mainly to make sure they were zeroed in on readings. Both of these latter units worked fine for myself and my wife. The 422 failed to read 75% of the time no matter what we did to try and make it work. (Original batteries, tight sufficient, steady and even pressure on pumping it up, etc…)
I called OMRON again. You can’t hurl this back to Sensitivity Rate Monitors USA after 30 days, which, OK, I can deal with. But Omron wants $8.00 to ship it back for S & H and wants me to insure it to them in case it’s hurt or lost. So it’ll cost me a further $6.90 if I ship it USPS Bundle Placement. Forget Priority. By the time it’s said and made the to/from shipping cost will be + or – $15.00.
We spent $45.00 on the unit and for the superfluous expense I reckon I’ll take it away from each other and fix it myself.
Example cultured: If you are vacant to buy a monitor such as this, don’t cheap out. Get the better one and invite it a day. (By the way the small wrist involuntary was a few points more accurate that the manual HEM-432C, which surprised me.)
