I am a first year nursing student and although I bought a Littman Classic II SE, I was concerned about it growing legs and on foot off while in clinical or lab. Based on the well-known “For Us Docs” stethescope assess from 2008 that you can find online, I selected up this steth for ~$24.00 here on Amazon to use as a replacement for.
Pros:
– This stethescope IS surprisingly apparent for apical auscultations and taking blood pressures. My Littman may be a bit louder, but I reckon that it sounds muddy or boomy. This Omron Sprague is apparent.
– The steth does NOT be inflicted with the tunable diaphragm like the Littmann, which I reckon is a plus. A normal dual-head steth, I find, is simpler to use: you
don’t be inflicted with to worry about changing pressure while listening to a patient to hear the distinguished or low noises.
– The blue affect that I chose is really a darker, less toy-like looking affect, which is nice. I wouldn’t be embarrassed in this in a hospital.
– Very flexible in terms of accessories: Adult and Peds diaphragam and bell attachments switch out quickly. Here is even an infant bell, and three types of eartips. The accessories all come in a small plastic folding holder, which is cheap but useful.
– Really feels like its built honestly well.
Cons:
– The double lumen tubing is stiff and doesn’t bend easily sufficient to accomadate various positions all through an exam.
– The double lumen has what appears to bea permenant kink due to being folded into the box for a small time.
– The accessories are cheap – the various bells are solely cheap plastic (but what do you want for the low price?)
– Here’s the BIG one for me: its extremely uncomfortable to wear! The mushroom eartips are worthless, the hardplastic tips did not block out ambient noise well sufficient, and the apparent rubber tips stuck too far into my ear canals. It was literally reasonably painful!
– The scope will get heavy over the course of a 12 hour shift.
All-in-all, this scope is usable as a last resort. And its cheap sufficient that if it gets ‘borrowed’ the owner wouldn’t be too mad. Useful for basic auscultations for students, but its too uncomfortable (for me) to be used for any length of time. I will hurl this back and get a refund, and go with a GRx or ADG, etc. Or get the Littmann impressed with my first name.
I would seriously consider getting one that is a bit more expensive for the comfort come forth alone.
***Update 3-8-10***
I resolute to fall on this scope and fix with it. I straightened out the tubing by letting it bathe in extremely hot water for 20 minutes (not immersing the head), then letting it fall so that the weight of the head would align the tubing. I also place on approximately soft ear tips from a Prestige Health check Sprague I had laying around and voila! It went from a kinked, uncomfortable scope to one that is really pretty nice to use. Is it the best scope out here? No, but for the price and apparent acoustics, it’s not too terrible (especially for students!) Solely be prepared to produce it a small TLC to get it into tip-top shape! I even used a small Deceased armor All I had in the garage to coat the tubing and protect it a bit. Hope this helps!

My ancient faithful *insert distinguished end company first name here* first stethoscope from nursing school died on me after three years. I prearranged this model with modest expectations, and I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the product. Having relatively “rookie” ears, I’m very pleased at the quality of the acoustics of this small fella. Lung sounds be inflicted with never been clearer, and I can pick up a murmur from six feet away. Well, the last part is a bit exaggerated, but you get the thought.
I produce this small guy two thumbs up.

I bought this stethoscope a couple of months back, its the best buy. It has really excellent acoustics, very accurate when taking blood pressure. I recommend this to anyone who wants to get something excellent and cheap.

We are using this stethoscope at home to monitor the growth of the small human being in my wife’s belly. Combined with the Omron Sphygmomanometer it can also measure the blood pressure and sensitivity rate of adult people. This combination is really splendid and way more accurate than the electronic blood pressure measurement equipements that are usually greatly more expensive. I highly recomment this product and the Omron Sphygmomanometer. Culture how to use them is honestly simple if you be inflicted with normal hearing ability.

While not a top of the line stethoscope this is a excellent quality instrument for the price of $11.00. It is a bit bulky but also sturdy. Working well for me after a year’s use. It comes with a kit of spare parts, most usefully the diaphragms which are subject to cracking.
